Smithland, KY -

A $193 million project to build a hydroelectric facility in Smithland, Kentucky is losing a contractor.

C.J. Mahan Construction Company announced on Thursday it is reducing its work activities at the site.

The company said in a statement, "This action is being taken as the parties proceed with their on-going efforts to resolve outstanding differences."

The project involves building turbines and diverting water from the Smithland Lock and Dam.

It's one of four hydroelectric projects being developed by American Municipal Power.

Local 6 not know yet if C.J. Mahan's reduction in work will impact jobs, but we have heard from several workers who claim they were let go and that Thursday was their last day.

We also asked American Municipal Power that question, but they have not given us an answer.
