US Senate honors late Sen. Wendell Ford

FRANKFORT, KY (AP) -

The U.S. Senate adopted a resolution Friday honoring former U.S. Sen. Wendell Ford, who died Thursday at his home in Owensboro.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul sponsored the resolution, which was adopted unanimously. The Senate also adjourned in Ford's memory.

The resolution noted that Ford is the only Kentuckian to ever win election to consecutive terms as lieutenant governor, governor and senator and highlighted his service in the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Army Reserves from 1949 to 1962.

Ford will lie in state at the state Capitol in Frankfort on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a public memorial service scheduled for 3 p.m. Ford's funeral is set for 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Owensboro.
