Canaan offers advice to Racers on handling "The Streak"

Posted: Updated:
Former Murray State standout Isaiah Canaan was in attendance Thursday night as Murray State ran their winning streak to 20 games routing SIU Edwardsville 78-46.  Canaan was part of the 2011-12 team that started the season 23-0. As that team got deeper into the season, it was obvious the streak began to wear on them as games got closer and closer before they finally lost for the first time.

This year's Murray State team is now just three wins away from tying that 2011-12 team for the longest winning streak in school history. Canaan offered some advice to the current batch of Racers on how not to let the streak become a burden.

“Just play free-minded,” Canaan said. “Don't worry about the losses or how many you've won in a row because that can hurt you. If you just go out and do the things you've been doing that got you the winning record, everything else will take care of itself. Don't go out there and play not to lose. Go out there and play the game you know how to play, be the best at what you know how to do and everything else will take care of itself – and you'll continue to win.”

The Racers will go for their 21st straight win, and an outright Ohio Valley Conference championship, when they travel to Southeast Missouri State on Saturday night.
