Energy companies asking customers to conserve electricity

Posted: Updated:
Two local energy providers are asking that you conserve electricity during these next few days.

Both the West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative and the Tennessee Valley Authority say the bitterly cold temperatures will increase demand for electricity.

To ensure that everyone has power, both companies are asking that you voluntarily reduce your power use.

The easiest way to do that is by turning down the thermostat. Lowering the temperature by one degree can help you save up to 3% on your bill.

You can also dress warmly to keep the temperature cooler in your home and turn off any electronics that are not in use.

If there is a power outage and you use electricity to heat your home, make sure you find shelter with friends or family, or head to one of these warming shelters.
