Dyersburg police officer arrested on theft charge

A police officer has been charged with allegedly stealing from a couple.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Dyersburg Police Officer Cara Elizabeth Johnson-Peckenpaugh electronically removed money from the checking account of a Union City couple. She then allegedly used that money to pay her electric bill.

Johnson-Peckenpaugh was arrested and charged with Theft under $500. She was booked into the Obion County jail and released after promising, in writing, to appear in all upcoming court proceedings.

She has also been suspended without pay from the Dyersburg Police Department.
