PADUCAH - The track team at a local high school skipped practice to help others Thursday.

"They doin' a wonderful job, and I really appreciate it," Lauren Runnells, a senior living at Elmwood Court, told us.

Paducah Tilghman High School's track team is responding to a need we told you about earlier this week. Seniors and the disabled living in local subsidized housing units were trapped in their apartments by icy walkways for days, preventing them from getting food and medications. About 40 track team members broke out the shovels and helped clear walkways of snow and ice at the Elmdale Court Apartments, right across the street from the high school.

It took the place of practice, but Coach Randy Wyatt says they still got a workout.

In the end, though, the effort was about doing good and making memories.

"At your 10 year reunion, and you start talkin' about some of the things you used to do in high school," Coach Wyatt told us. "So, I hope this is one of the things they will remember."

"Our community provides a lot for us, and gives a lot to us. So, it's only fair to give back to them," Senior Riley Sigler, a sprinter on the team, told photojournalist Chad Darnall.

Coach Wyatt tells us they might do this again.
