Kicking off March with National Multiple Sclerosis awareness

Posted: Updated:
PADUCAH - March is National Multiple Sclerosis Awareness month.  MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease that interrupts the flow of information to the central nervous system.

This week we are devoting each day to those who suffer from MS.

MS is different for every person.  You may have only minor problems or you may become seriously disabled.  Most people are somewhere in between.  Those who are diagnosed with MS live with it for decades.

While it is not contagious or directly inherited, scientists have identified factors that may help determine what causes the disease.  Those factors include gender, genetics, age, geography and ethnic background.

Women are twice as likely to get MS and while it can occur at any age it most commonly affects people between the ages of 15 and 60.

The average person in the United States has about a one in 750 chance of developing MS.
