Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis and tests

PADUCAH -

We continue to introduce you to The Faces of MS.  The month of March is dedicated to raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

Tuesday we discussed symptoms, and Wednesday we are focusing on the process of diagnosing a patient with MS.  It is somewhat difficult to diagnose a patient because there is no single test that is proof-positive.

A neurologist should evaluate your symptoms. According to Web MD, more than 10 percent of those diagnosed with MS actually have another condition that mimics the disease.  An accurate diagnosis is based on both your medical history and a neurological exam.  You may also go through a variety of other procedures, including MRI's, spinal taps, lumbar punctures and a lab analysis of your blood.

Local 6's Mychaela Bruner spoke with a group of ladies who described what it was like to hear they had MS for the first time. Watch the video for more.
