Kentucky officials warn of possible flooding

Posted: Updated:
FRANKFORT, KY (AP) -

Kentucky officials say rising temperatures could lead to possible flooding just days after the state was hit by a major snowstorm.

Gov. Steve Beshear said Thursday that flash flooding could be a concern in coming days as warmer temperatures start melting the heavy snow. He says the concerns about possible river flooding aren't as great.

The National Weather Service says snowfall amounts ranged from 8 to 24 inches from the winter storm that hit Kentucky on Wednesday and Thursday. The storm snarled traffic along stretches of interstate highways in the state.

The weather service says northern Kentucky had snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches. Many counties in western, central and northeastern Kentucky had accumulations of a foot to 2 feet of snow.
