The acting mayor of Carbondale is urging everyone to clear their sidewalks.
According to a city code, those who own or are in charge of property that is next to a public sidewalk are responsible for keeping it clear of snow, sleet, and ice.
The city code only applies to those who live within the city limits.
Acting Mayor Don Monty says he is mostly concerned about snow on sidewalks in front of businesses, along heavily traveled streets, and streets that lead to the university. He says it is a public safety issue.
The city code says the snow must be removed within 48 hours after the storm ends. The current deadline from this last storm is Friday evening, March 6th.
Monty says those who fail to remove the snow could face a fine.
