HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - On Friday, deputies from the Hopkins Co. Sheriff's office responded to a disturbance involving an intoxicated man on Rose Creek Road.

When they arrived, they found William Burch at his home.  Deputies say Burch was hostile and agitated as deputies learned he was heavily armed and intoxicated.

Burch threatened to kill the deputies and fired rounds at the deputies from inside the home.  Burch then exited the side door and began firing at deputies again.

The deputies returned fire and Burch barricaded himself inside the home.  Burch fired rounds from inside the residence on two more occasions.

The Madisonville Police Departments Emergency Response Team was requested to assist the units from the Sheriff's Office, Kentucky State Police and Madisonville Police who were already on scene.    After several hours, Burch surrendered and was taken to the Hopkins County Jail.

He's charged with wanton endangerment, terroristic threatening and resisting arrest.
