Headed for distribution, local brewery brewing up success

For the last nine months St. Nicholas Brewing Company has been Du Quoin's best kept secret. Now the folks at St. Nicholas want to give you a taste of Perry County's finest.

"When we started off we only had two beers on tap, and we only had one fermenter so I could only do one beer a week,” said brew master James McCoy. “We had such a high demand that I couldn't keep up."

From the American Pale Ale, Scotch Strong Ale, Porter, or the Imperial IPA brew master James McCoy carefully brews with local ingredients when available.

"We get the best hops and the quality malt that we can get,” said McCoy. “One thing we're always trying to do here is get the best ingredients."

"This is a small business and it's all one guy doing all the work," said owner Abby Ancell.

For a taste that McCoy and owner Abby Ancell say is unlike any other.

"It's been a process of just always trying to one up yourself the next time you do your brewing process," said McCoy.

"We definitely want to provide the best beer possible,” said Ancell. “We want to continue to have fun, and people to come in and have fun here, and enjoy this."

With root beer on tap, they have something the whole family can enjoy, so McCoy and Ancell encourage you to come out and see what the buzz is about.
