Teens sent to hospital after Hopkinsville wreck

Posted: Updated:
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -  State police say two teenage women were taken to the hospital after a single vehicle wreck Friday morning in Hopkinsville. Police responded to the scene, at the 77 mile marker of Interstate 24, at 8:19 a.m.

KSP says it appears the driver — 19-year-old Amber Russell,  of Cadiz — fell asleep behind the wheel of her 1997 Honda Civic while driving west on the interstate. The car left the road and drove into the left-hand median before striking a cable barrier and traveling about 150 feet before coming to a stop against the barrier.

Russell and her passenger — 18-year-old Kristin Boaz, of Princeton — were taken in an ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. Both women were wearing seat belts.

Trooper Michael Dennis investigated the wreck. Trooper First Class Jim McArthur and Hopkinsville/Christian County EMS assisted at the scene.
