TRIGG COUNTY, KY -
Land Between The Lakes Supervisor Tina Tilley is scheduling public forums later this year to have open discussions between her and those interested in the land use for LBL.
She said it will only work if the public is engaged in this issue. Congressman Ed Whitfield was all smiles after meeting with Tilley and others about the future use of the land.
"This logging issue has really disturbed a lot of people," Rep. Whitfield said.
Whitfield is working with the Lyon and Trigg County judge executives to better understand the impacts of any changes drafted by Tilley. Whitfield wants an open dialogue. "We want transparency. We want to be heard," he said.
Tilley announced Monday she will hold off on offering any new timber contracts, and there will now be a 150 foot buffer from the road to any logging. Tilley said she supports public comments. "So we can inform the public of what we are doing, and we can actually have a conversation around the management that takes place here at Land Between the Lakes," she told Local 6.
It's welcome news to Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White. He's been pushing for a halt for months. "That's what we asked for. We asked for those to be on hold and for us to have the ability to comment, to meet."
Tilley hasn't scheduled the meetings, but Local 6 will announce the dates when they are released.
