PADUCAH, KY - Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation has elected Christian County native Dennis L. Cannon its new CEO, JPEC Vice President of Human Resources and Member Relations Izell White announced Monday morning.

White said Cannon was elected by a unanimous vote of the JPEC board of directors during a recent meeting at its Paducah headquarters. JPEC's previous president and CEO, G. Kelly Nuckols, in October announced he would be retiring, with plans to act in a consulting capacity until April 30.

Cannon previously worked for two decades with the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. and its affiliate, United Utility Supply Cooperative, Inc. Most recently, he served four years as the the KAEC-UUS vice president for public relations and strategic initiatives.

White said Cannon has also served on multiple public and nonprofit boards of directors, including as a director on the board of the Elizabethtown-based Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development since 2001 and as secretary, and later, chairman of the organization from 2004 to 2012.

He holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Kentucky, where he was president of the Kentucky 4-H organization. For the past 24 years Cannon has served as a volunteer leader for Kentucky 4-H, and was awarded the organization's lifetime achievement award in 2010 and inducted into its hall of fame. Last year, he joined the board of directors of the Kentucky 4-H Foundation, the organization's nonprofit fundraising arm.

JPEC board chairman Gary Joiner said the board is pleased to welcome Cannon to the JPEC team, and that Cannon, "brings a broad range of electric utility cooperative knowledge and experience to JPEC."

White said Cannon will take office on Monday, May 4.
