Former labor union bookkeeper charged with embezzling

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - The former bookkeeper for Laborer's Local 1197 in Illinois has been indicted by a federal grand jury in East St. Louis, Illinois, on charges of embezzlement and theft from the union, the office of United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton said Friday. 

The woman — Carolyn Hall, 53, from McLeansboro, Illinois — is accused of taking $26,491 between July 2012 and February 2014 from union members dues payments for personal use. If convicted, Hall faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. 

Laborer's Local 1197 is part of Laborer's International Union of North America.
