Wake being held for man who died after arrest

Posted: Updated:
BALTIMORE (AP) - A wake is being held in Baltimore for Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old black man who died a week ago after sustaining serious injuries while in police custody.

The wake is being held at the Vaughn Green East funeral home, where a funeral will be held Monday.

Across the street from the funeral home, about 40 sympathizers turned up, some holding signs of support.

Gray was also remembered at a church service earlier today. Pastor Jamal Bryant told the congregation at Empowerment Temple AME Church that if "you're black in America your life is always under threat."

The mourning came a day after violence marred a protest Saturday in which thousands of people took to the streets to demand answers in the case. Gray's death on April 19 has intensified a national debate over police treatment of African-Americans.A protest over the death of a man who was injured while in the custody of Baltimore police Gray started peacefully with thousands marching through downtown streets. Then, things turned violent and volatile.
