Endowment to help local students

Posted: Updated:
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

"A good career will solve almost any problem facing a person or family." That quote if from the late Fred Paxton, who along with his wife Peggy, started the $1 million McCracken County Community Career Endowment in 2006.

On Sunday, that tradition continued when more than two dozen students were awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships.

Endowment President Charles Hamilton says the endowment is a blessing for local students.

"We hope that we can encourage African American students to notice someone cares and someone is trying to help them advance their education," said Hamilton.

Sadly Fred Paxton died shortly after creating the endowment.

Paxton was President of WPSD Local 6 and later President of Paxton Media Group, which owns WPSD Local 6. He also served as board chairman.
