National hotline may help those struggling to keep food on the table

Posted: Updated:

If you need help keeping food on your family's table, a national hotline may be able to help.

The New York City Coalition Against Hunger has launched a coast-to-coast outreach program to increase the use of the National Hunger Hotline.

The hotline connects callers with emergency food providers in their community, government assistance, nutritional assistance programs, and various other services that promote self-sufficiency.

During the summer, parents can also use the hotline to find out where children under the age of 18 can get meals for free.

The hotline is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Those needing help can reach the hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (en Español) Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. eastern time.
