Illinois medical marijuana won't be OK for diabetes, anxiety

CHICAGO (AP) -

An Illinois advisory board has voted to recommend that irritable bowel syndrome and migraines be added to the list of qualifying conditions in the state's medical marijuana program.

The vote at a public hearing in Chicago is one of several votes expected Monday on various conditions submitted by public petition. Board members earlier voted against adding diabetes and anxiety to the list. They said anxiety was too broad, but left open the possibility of adding severe anxiety to the list in the future.

The hearing also will deal with whether scientific evidence supports military veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder should use marijuana to manage their symptoms.

The board includes patients, nurses, doctors and a pharmacist. It will make recommendations to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
