7th home dedicated to Brookport family after 2013 tornado

Posted: Updated:
Brookport, IL - As he fired up the grill to celebrate his new home with friends, Chuck Boyt told Local 6 he would be sleeping in his new house tonight.

"I guarantee it," he said. Since the tornado tore through Brookport in 2013 and severely damaged his mobile home, he and his wife Colleen have been unsure about their safety and felt uneasy about their living situation.

This will be the 7th home completed by the Massac and Polk County Recovery Commission.

Development Coordinator Joe Benberry said he wanted to build a home that Boyt's would have pride in. "In some instances, I've seen better living conditions in third world countries that I've been. And that's sad for me as a veteran because I want to see Americans live. I think we should live better," Benberry told Local 6's Blake Stevens.

The MPCRC has 10 homes left to complete in the next couple of months.  If you are interested in volunteering, contact Pastor David LaNeave of Over The Bridge Ministries at (731) 414-8232 or you can log onto Facebook.com/MPCRC.info.
