Governor not worried about getting budget deal passed

Posted: Updated:
LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) - Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner says he's not worried about getting a budget deal done in the remaining weeks of the Legislature's spring session.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports ( ) that Rauner said in Lincoln Saturday that budget working groups and his senior staff are working well together in negotiations.
Rauner says he expects progress before the scheduled May 31 adjournment date.
The comments came shortly before Rauner delivered the commencement address to 320 Lincoln College graduates. The Democratic-led Illinois House voted this week against a portion of the governor's budget that aims to close a $6 billion gap entirely by slashing spending. Rauner has opened the door to new revenue if lawmakers pass his pro-business agenda.
