Weekend weather: Two tornadoes reported in Texas

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS (AP) - At least two tornadoes have touched down in North Texas.

The fire chief in the town of Cisco says one person has been killed after a tornado swept through the area.

The tornado hit this afternoon in Eastland County, about 100 miles west of Fort Worth.

Eastland County Judge Rex Fields says there was a "considerable amount of damage" in the county. But he says damage assessment is difficult because of heavy rains.

The extent of injuries or fatalities isn't clear there or in the town of Burkburnett, about 15 miles north of Wichita Falls, where the second tornado touched down.

The weather service this afternoon elevated to "moderate" the risk of tornadoes in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and elsewhere across North Texas.

Storms also brought heavy rain and quarter-sized hail to parts of southwest Oklahoma this afternoon, but meteorologists say there was so much rain - and so little sun - that the tornado threat there lessened throughout the day. Parts of western Kansas also are bracing for severe storms.
