A Carbondale man has been found guilty of armed robbery.

On September 21, 2014, Carbondale police responded to Primo's Pizza on reports of a fight in progress. When they got there, they found a man in the parking lot with cuts and scrapes consistent with being in a fight.

The man told officers he was trying to purchase cannabis when he was attacked by 23-year-old Christian McLendon. The victim told police he was hit in the face and pulled face first into the gravel.

The victim claimed that McLendon beat him until he found a butter knife, which had fallen out of his backpack, and stabbed McLendon with it.

McLendon then left. The victim said McLendon stole $45 from him during the fight.

McLendon was later found by police in an emergency room. He told officers that he was attacked by the victim with a knife and retreated for his own safety.

Officers then found text messages on his phone that showed intent to rob the victim. When police asked McLendon about the texts, he admitted to attempting to rob the victim, but said he didn't take any money.

McLendon was arrested after being released from the hospital.

On May 6, a jury trial was held and McLendon was found guilty of attempted robbery. He will be sentenced on July 8.
