Paducah police accepting applications for fourth annual Junior Citizens' Police Academy

Posted: Updated:
PADUCAH, KY - The Paducah Police Department has announced it's accepting applications for its fourth annual Junior Citizens' Police Academy.

The JCPA is held to give teens ages 13 to 18 a first-hand look at the inner workings of the police department.

During the five-day program teens participate in mock crime scene investigations and court proceedings, learn about the department's specialized units — like the bomb squad and SWAT team — and participate in mock traffic stops, among other activities.

The JCPA is free, and can accept up to 24 participants. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, and participants get a t-shirt and lunches.

Applications will be accepted through the close of business June 5. Repeat students are welcome to apply, but new students are given priority. Students from throughout west Kentucky can apply.

For more information and an application, click here or email Officer Chris Bolton at Applications should be mailed or delivered to the Paducah Police Department, at 1400 Broadway St. in Paducah.
