A suspect in the abduction of a woman alleged to have happened in Cape Girardeau earlier in the week was taken into custody Friday afternoon in a town just west of Chicago, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

At about 2 p.m. Friday Coal City, Illinois, resident Jeffery M. Lazier, 43, was taken into custody in Yorkville, Illinois.

A woman told law enforcement she was forced into a red, extended cab pick-up truck sometime between 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. She said she was then taken to multiple locations and sexually assaulted before she escaped in Effingham, Illinois, around 6 p.m. that day.

Police say Friday morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab advised investigators that fingerprints, which had been lifted from the victim's vehicle, matched Lazier.  Investigators also confirmed Lazier owns a red 2006 Ford F-250, and he is registered as a sex offender in Illinois.

Lazier was found in Yorkville, and taken into custody by Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation without incident.

Lazier is being held on a Cape Girardeau County warrant for first degree class A robbery, class B felony kidnapping, armed criminal action, first degree felony sodomy, and class C felony first degree sexual abuse. His bond has been set at $250,000, cash only.  He's being held pending extradition to Missouri.
