METROPOLIS, IL -

A former City of Metropolis employee was arrested for allegedly stealing gas from the city.

The Metropolis Police Department says on May 12 just after 3:00 a.m., an officer saw a pickup truck next to the city of Metropolis gas pumps on Pearl Street.

The officer says the pump was reading 22.8 gallons of fuel. He could also smell a strong odor of gasoline in the pickup and the gas gauge showed a full tank.

The driver of the pickup, 37-year-old Frank Henderson, told the officer that he had pulled up next to the pumps to speak with a person he saw walking down the street.

Henderson was recently terminated from his employment with the city.

A report was made and forwarded to the Massac County State's Attorney for review. A warrant was issued for Henderson for theft and he was arrested Friday morning.

Henderson was taken to the Massac County Detention Center. His bond was set at $3,000.
