MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -
An 11-year-old boy was taken to Lourdes hospital after he was hit by a car on Husband Road in McCracken County Tuesday afternoon, and was then flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. He was last listed in critical but stable condition.
The boy, who the sheriff's department has identified as Zachary Pittman, of Paducah, was hit a little after 4 p.m. He'd been dropped off at a driveway by a McCracken County school bus. After the bus left, McCracken County Deputy David Shepard says, the boy crossed the street. Then the child went to cross back into the driveway.
Deputy Shepard said the preliminary investigation shows that while he was trying to cross back the street into the driveway, he was hit by a car going northbound driven by an 18-year-old woman. The road is on a hill and she may not have been able to see him. Deputies said they don't believe speed was a factor in the incident or that charges will be brought.
The incident is still under investigation.
