Illinois law could punish pet owners for leaving animals outside in extreme temperatures

Leaving your pets outside in extreme hot or cold weather in Illinois could land you in jail for up to a year and cost you $2,500.

Governor Bruce Rauner is reviewing a measure to sentence and fine offenders.

If signed into law, exposing dogs or cats to extreme temperatures will be a misdemeanor.
