Carbondale man indicted on murder charge

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. - A Carbondale man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges — including first degree murder — a Jackson County grand jury indicted him on the day before, according to the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office.

Carbondale man Quentin M. Bailey, 21, was indicted on charges of first degree murder, robbery and armed robbery. He was previously charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm regarding a May 10 shooting incident at a hotel parking lot on the east side of Carbondale.

After the initial charges were made the shooting victim, a Marion man named Broderick Miller, died. The state's attorney's office says the murder charge alleges Bailey fired a .380 caliber handgun and caused Miller's death, and the robbery charge alleges Bailey took cannabis from Miller by force or threatened used of imminent force.

Bailey was arrested in Carbondale on May 11 and has been in custody of the Jackson County Sheriff on a $1,000 bond. A trial date has not been set.
