HARRISBURG, IL -
The Shawnee National Forest will begin working on sections of the Garden of the Gods Observation Trail on Monday, the U.S. Forest Service announced.
The work is expected to continue through June 20. The trail will be open for public use during that time, but short sections will be temporarily flagged off while the crew is at work.
Forest service at the park says folks can expect to see that small crew of workers with equipment while on the trail, but that visitors are asked to avoid the flagged areas for their own protection.
The work will replace sections of the flagstones along the trail affected by weathering and surface water runoff. The forest service noted improvements will continue to be made at the Garden of the Gods Recreation Area in anticipation of the unveiling of the Illinois state quarter highlighting Camel Rock.
