HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - A Christian County man is charged with murder along with more than 10 other charges for causing the death of an 89 year-old woman.

On Tuesday, Kentucky State Police was trying to perform a traffic stop on a 2007 Buick Lacrosse that was traveling northbound on Pembroke Road.  KSP says the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Quintrell Quarles, 26 of Hopkinsville, accelerated to a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude police .

He failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle, entering the southbound lane and striking a 1998 Honda CRV driven by Nancy Simmons, 60 of Hopkinsville.

Simmons, along with her passengers, Leatrice Simmons, 89, of Pembroke, Timothy Kline, 14, of Hopkinsville, and Robert Simmons, 10, of Hopkinsville were taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.  All occupants except Timothy Kline were wearing seat belts.

Simmons died Saturday from her injuries.

Quarles has been charged with murder, 1st degree assault, DUI 1st degree, wanton endangerment 1st degree, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, operating on a suspended license and criminal mischief.
