SALINE COUNTY, IL -
On Friday a jury found a Harrisburg, Illinois, man guilty of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery of a child, endangering the life or health of a child, and criminal damage to property, according to the Saline County state's attorney's office.
In an announcement sent Monday, Saline County State's Attorney Michael J. Henshaw said 34-year-old James E. Houston was alleged to have shoved his former girlfriend, Amber F. Akins, and grabbed her around the throat. He then allegedly pressed a pillow to the back of her head and forced her faced-down on on a bed, strangling her in her apartment in Eldorado, Illinois.
The battery of a child conviction stems from an allegation that earlier that day Houston injured Akins' two-year-old child's face, head, and body. Henshaw said a neighbor, Joseph Hunt, came to the aid of the mother and child.
