Neighbors react to condemned home

Posted: Updated:

Charges are still pending against the Paducah woman accused of hoarding animals after 30 cats were taken from her home on Whitney Drive.

Data from the local property assessor show some homes along the street range between $200,000 and $700,000. Paducah Fire Marshal Greg Cherry says the price of the home doesn't matter. “Nothing surprises me anymore,” he said.

A neighbor of the unnamed woman, Matt Mikel, who has lived on Whitney Drive for less than a year, says he's shocked. He feels bad for the woman, but thinks the neighborhood should follow rules so the community remains safe. Mike says he likes his neighbors, and that it's a beautiful neighborhood.

Once a home has been condemned, the owner has 60 days to make repairs. Cherry says if a person is making improvements within 60 days they can actually take as long as they need.
