WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sen. Rand Paul, and Rep. Ed Whitfield met with Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz Thursday about the near- and long-term future of the Paducah Department of Energy site.

According to a news release from McConnell's office, he, Paul, and Whitfield stressed the importance of DOE's commitment to cleanup, reindustrialization in Paducah, and securing a long-term strategy and future for the site.

The three Kentucky politicians said the site is "extremely important to the people of Paducah, the commonwealth of Kentucky," and to each of them, according to the release. They said it's "crucial that DOE develop a long-term strategy for the site to ensure that ongoing deactivation work and future decontamination and decommissioning work is done properly and executed in a timely manner."
