FRANKFORT, Ky -

A program that helps feed kids during the summer got a bit of a monetary boost.

On Tuesday, Governor Steve Beshear announced that the Kentucky Association of Food Banks would be getting $40,000 to help fund the Summer Food Service Program.

The program helps provide meals throughout the summer to low-income children.

Half of the money comes from a private grant from Share Our Strength, a national organization working to end childhood hunger. The other $20,000 comes from the State Planning Fund.

Parents who want to take advantage of the program can call the National Hunger Hotline at (866) 3-HUNGRY to find the nearest free meal site. You can also search for locations online by clicking here.
