1 killed, 1 rescued in trench collapse in Jefferson County
LOUISVILLE, KY -
Louisville police say one person has died and another was trapped and had to be rescued in a trench collapse in southwestern Jefferson County.
Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says the crew was apparently working on sewer pipes for a company out of Tennessee.
Smiley says police were called to the scene around 2:20 p.m. EDT Thursday.
Multiple media outlets report the man who was trapped for nearly five hours was pulled out by rescuers just before 7 p.m. Officials said he was conscious and helped direct rescuers where to dig. He was taken to a hospital after he was freed.
Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health is investigating along with police.
