Volunteers needed for student reading program

Posted: Updated:

A local United Way is hoping you'll volunteer your time to help children learn to read.

The United Way of Paducah-McCracken County says it needs volunteers to become Reading PALS (Partners and Literacy Support).

Each volunteer will be matched with a student and will be expected to attend weekly for breakfast or lunch and a reading session.

Schools participating in the program are:

- Clark Elementary School
- Lone Oak Elementary School
- Lone Oak Intermediate School
- McNabb Elementary School
- Morgan Elementary School
- Paducah Middle School
- Paducah Day Nursery
- Reidland Elementary School
- Reidland Intermediate School

Those interested in becoming a Reading PAL need to take a one-hour training course and pass a background check.

The next training dates are Tuesday, July 7 from Noon - 1:00 p.m. and Tuesday, August 4 for Noon to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided during training.
