Conway, Bevin make first joint appearance of campaign

Posted: Updated:

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jack Conway has promised a big investment in early childhood education in a speech to county officials from across Kentucky. His Republican opponent, Matt Bevin, refrained from making spending promises because he says the state is broke.

The two men competing to occupy the governor's office for at least the next four years had their first joint appearance of the campaign Friday.

They offered contrasting views in speeches to the group of county judge-executives and magistrates.

Conway is completing his second term as state attorney general. Bevin is a businessman.

Conway vowed that if elected he will invest in early childhood education in a way Kentuckians have not seen before.

Bevin says it's not so simple to make spending promises because the question is where to get the money.
