Fulton City Independent Schools has a new mascot: a 9-week-old English bulldog.
The school system says the dog was formally introduced to a group of seniors and staff on Tuesday, June 23, in the high school commons.
Fulton veterinarian Dr. Harry Ward is helping as sponsor for the dog and providing veterinary care for it. Carr Elementary teacher Jennifer Caldwell and her family are providing a home for her.
The school system says the bulldog needs a name, and the district wants to involve the community in that process. The students and staff chose four names to pick from, and students and Fulton community members can vote for the favorite. Voting ends on Sunday, July 5.
The names are:
Athena - after the Greek goddess of wisdom.
Beda – The school system says the name means warrior woman, or battle maiden.
B.G. – short for bulldog.
Classy – The school system says it fits their theme that everything about FC is going to be First Class.
