Conservative group argues county clerks shouldn't have to issue same sex marriage licenses

Posted: Updated:
LEXINGTON, KY - Conservative group The Family Foundation of Kentucky released a statement Monday stating its view that Kentucky county clerks should be able to refrain from issuing same-sex marriage licenses.

"There are county clerks out there who have a religious objection to same-sex marriage," Martin Cothran, the Family Foundation's senior policy analyst, said in Monday's statement.

"They should be able to do what our own attorney general did last year when he refused to defend Kentucky's marriage law on conscience grounds," he continued. "County clerks have consciences too."
