Damaged flashing beacon could potentially not be replaced

Posted: Updated:

A flashing beacon was taken down in Hickman, Kentucky because it was damaged.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a flashing beacon at the intersection of KY 94/Moscow Avenue and KY 125/Troy Avenue was hit by a passing truck.

The accident caused major damage to the support cables and the beacon had to be taken down.

While the beacon is down, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet traffic engineers will be studying the intersection for the next 2-3 months to see if a new flashing beacon should be installed.

The traffic engineers will look at traffic volume, peak traffic numbers, turn wait times, crash history, and other factors to make their decision.

Anyone wishing to comment on the flashing beacon can e-mail kytc.District1info@ky.gov or write to Traffic Engineering Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Road, Paducah, KY  42003.
