Plans to build a Holiday Inn on Paducah's riverfront are moving forward.
The hotel will look similar to one already in operation under Lingate Hospitality in Owensboro. Tuesday night Paducah city commissioners signed a hotel development agreement with Lingate. The city will lease the property to the company for 20 years.
Prior to Tuesday's meeting, Lingate agreed to take charge in attracting conventions and large events to western Kentucky.
The Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center Corporation Board voted to have Lingate take over that role effective Aug. 1. Members cut ties with the Paducah Convention Hotel LLC and Senate Hospitality effective July 31.
One board member says, even given failed attempts at development in the past, the board has every confidence in Lingate's ability to create results.
"We're talking about different people, different organizations, different leadership. I'm not here to say one is better than the other, but to what we have right now, with LinGate: We're very, very encouraged with what they're doing, and we think they'll be successful." board member Phil Mcintosh said.
A representative with Lingate told us today the company should receive word late Tuesday or Wednesday whether it has secured financing for the hotel.
