Local 6 chief photographer Mike Spissinger will be honored at the 39th Annual Emmy Awards in St. Louis, the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Friday.
Spissinger will be inducted into the Silver Circle, in which NATAS says it inducts television professionals "with 25 or more years of outstanding service in television."
Mid-America Chapter President Stacey Woelfel says “this slate of inductees to the Silver Circle shows the wide variety of talented people who contribute to quality television all over the Midwest. I’m excited we can honor them in front of their peers this fall."
In Friday's announcement, the chapter said of Spissinger:
He’s been photographing the news in the Southern Illinois/Paducah Mid-America region since 1983. Award winning Mike Spissinger currently serves as Chief Photojournalist at WPSD Local 6 in Paducah, Kentucky. Mike’s colleagues describe him as a team player, hard worker, enthusiastic mentor and talented photojournalist. Spissinger loves teaching television news photography to others and hopes that he helped lay some solid groundwork for the photojournalists that have passed through. Spissinger has won numerous awards from the Kentucky Associated Press and the Kentucky News Photographers Association. Mike has also been nominated for four regional Emmys by the NATAS Mid-America Chapter and won the prestigious award once.
The 39th Mid-America Emmy Awards will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Majestic Ballroom of the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel. The black tie affair is open to the public. Tickets go on sale August 15th and are available online emmymid-america.org or by calling 314-314-533-2993.
