Students and construction crews work around the heat

Posted: Updated:

It may be hot out, but people still have to work.

Paducah construction workers use one word to some up working in this heat.

"It's tough, it's tough," said construction worker Mark Turner.

Whether it's starting work at seven in the morning like Turner at this apartment complex.

"We try to start as early as we can," he said.

Or cutting the day short like Brian Chambers and his crew of construction workers on a project at a shopping center.

"Typically we stay until 5:30 p.m., but today because of the heat, we're going to leave at 3 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.," Chambers said.

It's about working around the heat.

"Take a lot of water breaks and try to cool off as much as possible," Turner said.

Workers aren't the only ones dealing with this heat. Usually band camp takes place on the football field, but now even the school is taking some precautions.

"We're more inside than outside, because of the weather," band student Anastasia Donelson said.

Paducah Tilghman High School Assistant Principal Kristopher Durfee says the school planned ahead for sports and activities like band camp.

"They had made facilities available inside in case of the heat," he said.

One thing certain for all the people working in Tuesday's heat: Safety is a number one priority.

Another issue that came up while talking to some of the workers is that some people are complaining because of the noise so early in the morning. They ask everyone to bear with them because, at this point, it's about their safety.
