PADUCAH, KY -

Two teenage boys from McCracken County were arrested Wednesday on burglary and robbery charges, according to Paducah police.

The boys are accused of breaking into a home on Tennessee Street in Paducah and, armed with a handgun, demanding money and drugs.

A man called police at 5:37 a.m. Wednesday morning and reported two white males had kicked open the front door of his home, waved a handgun and demanded money and drugs. A woman who also lived there told police she recognized one of the teens.

While talking to the victims, an officer saw a white pickup truck speeding away from the area, saw that it matched the description of a truck reported stolen to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, and tried to stop it. Police say the truck wouldn't stop, and the officer pursued it until the driver lost control and the truck hit a utility pole at the corner of Bridge Street and Ashbrook Avenue.

Police say the driver of the truck ran away. Officers searched for about two and a half hours before finding him in the yard of a home on Clements Street.

The passenger in the truck, a 16-year-old boy, was charged with first degree burglary and first degree robbery. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was charged with first degree burglary, first degree robbery, first degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, first degree criminal mischief, receiving stolen property less than $10,000, reckless driving and possession of a handgun by a minor.

Both boys were taken to the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.
