Crash blocking Purchase Parkway in Marshall County

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says one lane is open southbound at the site. He said emergency personnel are still on the scene, and caution is required.

Local 6 photographer Austin Vance was at the scene and learned additional information about the wreck that blocked the site. A deputy told Vance a car crossed from the northbound lanes to the southbound lanes and hit another car head on. One of the cars was hit by a pickup truck before hitting the rear of a tractor-trailer.

The initial wreck also caused a second wreck about a mile back when traffic slowed. A car that was slowing down collided with a car that was merging, and one of these two vehicles left the roadway. Vance said ambulances were on site, but the deputy did not mention any injuries.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says it has received a report from Marshall County E911 that the southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway are blocked because of a multi-vehicle, multi-injury wreck.

KYTC spokesman Keith Todd said the lanes are blocked between the 47 and 46 mile marker, which is just south of the Kentucky 348 Exit 47 Draffenville interchange.

Todd said the estimated duration is 2 hours, and the detour is via Kentucky 348 and U.S. 641.
