UPDATE: Lyon County animal ordinance first reading
By Staff report
LYON COUNTY, Ky. -
We have an update on an animal ordinance we told you about last week.
The Lyon County Fiscal Court held a first reading Thursday on an ordinance to protect dogs, cats and horses from abuse in the county.
Part of the ordinance deals with what happens after an animal is taken. The conditions that caused the animal to be taken must be corrected, and the owner must pay all fees regarding the animal's care.
"If enough of our counties do this, it will send a message to Frankfort that the people want this and need this," said Dee Robinson with Kentucky Citizens Against Animal Abuse.
There are state-level protections for animals, but county leaders tell us prosecuting and dealing with these issues can take some time.
