JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -

An Elkville, Illinois, man will most likely spend the rest of this life in prison after he was convicted of killing a child. He was sentenced Monday, according to the Jackson County, Illinois, state's attorney's office.

The state's attorney's office says 27-year-old Jarrod Rudder was convicted of first degree murder on June 22 and sentenced to 80 years in prison Monday.

He was convicted of killing 2-year-old Michael Pulliam. The child died at St. Louis Children's Hospital on April 22. The state's attorney's office says an autopsy revealed the child suffered injury to nerves in his brain caused by "extreme acceleration and deceleration forces," eight lateral rib fractures, and severe hemorrhaging deep in his abdominal cavity.

Rudder will will have to serve all of the sentence before three years probation, and he is required to register in the Illinois Murderer and  Violent Offenders Against Youth Registry.
