Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in southern Illinois

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -

The West Nile virus has been found in the Local 6 area.

West Nile is a disease that's spread by mosquitoes and can be very dangerous to those with a weak immune system.

The Southern Seven Health Department reports mosquitoes in our area have tested positive for the virus.

Johnson County tested positive on Wednesday, Union County on August 11, and Massac County on August 5.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says they also confirmed the first human case of West Nile in Illinois this year. The woman is from the St. Louis area.
